Tropical water cycle studied
U.S. scientists say they've determined rain evaporation and continental convection play an important part in the tropical water cycle. The researchers, led by John Worden at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, analyzed global measurements of the isotopic composition of water vapor from NASA's Tropospheric Emission Spectrometer to determine the processes ...
One of America's Great Student Newspapers
I have an unhealthy obsession. Actually, it's more of an epidemic - an epidemic that is sweeping the nation and afflicting countless innocent victims like myself. It's gotten so bad that I need my daily fix or I can't even fall asleep at night.
Earth-shattering Proof Of Continents On The Move
Africa is being torn apart. And as Ethiopia's rift valley grows slowly wider, an international team of scientists is taking a unique opportunity to plot the progress of continents on the move.

Scientists Observe Drumlin Beneath Ice Sheet
Scientists have discovered a warehouse-sized drumlin -- a mound of sediment and rock -- actively forming and growing under the ice sheet in Antarctica. Its discovery, and the rate at which it was formed, sheds new light on ice-sheet behavior. This could have implications for predicting how ice sheets contribute to sea-level rise. The results are published this week in the journal Geology.
Open Project to Develop Renewable Energy System
rohar writes "We have been working on a system that combines some existing indirect solar technologies to build a location independent, renewable, reliable and economically feasible indirect solar electrical power generation system. The idea is to 'roll-your-own' geothermal source by capturing heat from the ambient air with a solar powered absorption heat pump, store it underground and generate ...
European space telescope in operation
PARIS, Jan. 25 (UPI) -- The European Space Agency says the COROT Space Telescope has operated for the first time, successfully imaging light coming from stars. The telescope -- a French space agency project with ESA participation -- is designed to survey vast stellar fields to learn about star interiors and to search for extra-solar planets. The telescope will officially begin operating next ...
France in Space #364: COROT Telescope Takes Off for the Stars
CNES, along with its European and international partners, and especially the Paris Observatory, Arianespace/Starsem and prime contractor Alcatel Alenia Space, celebrated the successful launch of the COROT space telescope on December 27th, 2006. The French-led COROT mission (COnvection, ROtation of stars and Transits of extrasolar planets) is the first of its kind, being the first spacecraft ...
Air pollution is reducing wind speed and precipitation
Washington, Jan 23: According to a study by Stanford and NASA researchers, aerosolized particles created from vehicle exhaust and other contaminants can accumulate in the atmosphere and reduce the speed of winds closer to the Earth's surface.
The Community Center grand tour
After a long wait, the new Community Center is finally nearing completion. The pulsing of an air compressor echoed off the walls and down the corridors as workers could be spotted here and there doing their respective duties.
